Have you ever seen a betta fish vase? It’s basically a large flower vase filled with water and maybe a live plant. There are plenty of reasons why bettas should never be kept in one of these vases. Here are a few of those reasons.
Air
There’s a special organ on top of your bettas head. Thanks to this organ, your betta can also receive oxygen from the air. Being kept in a vase with a large plant may keep your betta from getting enough air. Without enough space to come up for air, he’ll die.
Space
Your betta won’t have enough space to swim freely in a vase. Even the largest designs aren’t big enough. This will cause your betta to be unhappy and less healthy.
Water
Bettas need warmer temperatures since they’re tropical fish. Do you think you could easily regulate the water temperature in a betta fish vase? I think not. Your fish will also produce waste that will dirty up the water. You will have to change the water frequently since you can’t have a filtration system.
Plant
It’s best not to put a plant in the vase anyway. With a plant in the vase, there’s less space available for your fish to swim. Your fish can also be susceptible to health problems caused by the plant’s wastes.
Many vases come with a peace lily. Some new owners believe that their betta can eat the plant and survive for a while. However, these fish are meat eaters. These fish may nibble on the plant occasionally. However, they need meat.
